I began acting at age 6, playing the role of Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol. The director of that production was once heard as saying I was "The only Tiny Tim I ever had that I didn't want to punt out a window," and I have worked to be a top-notch theatre collaborator ever since.
I continued performing through elementary, junior high and high school, ultimately leading to my B.A. in Theatre Performance from the University of Northern Iowa in 2004. After moving to the Twin Cities in 2005, I have performed in over 30 professional productions, working with companies such as Walking Shadow Theatre Company, Theatre Pro Rata, Tedious Brief Productions, Theatre Forever and Swandive Theatre, among others.
My wife Ruth and I also run, Freshwater Theatre, which has produced over 30 shows since its inception in 2010. Our Spring 2013 production of Freshwater Theatre Goes Back to High School won an Ivey Award for Playwriting, honoring playwrights Katherine Glover, Alissa Shellito and Jeri Weiss for their work. As Co-Artistic Director, I not only shape the artistic vision of the company, but also handle many of the administrative duties, including financials, website creation and maintenance, social media presence, and press contacts.
This work in production led me to try my hand at directing, beginning with serving as Assistant Director on Swandive Theatre's production of The Baltimore Waltz in 2010. Since then, I have been working steadily as a director, working with Fortune's Fool Theatre, The Chameleon Theatre Circle, The Red Letter Society, Freshwater Theatre, Northern Starz Children's Theatre, Devious Mechanics, One T Productions, Eden Prairie Players, and Mermaid Productions, among others.
I am now primarily focused on my work as a director and producer, looking forward to expanding my horizons, working with new companies and new collaborators, to make each production better than the one before.
